Sewing and Dressmaking
Vision for Asia works closely with our local partners sharing their vision to help the poor. One such vision is to share the love of Jesus with women who could be given the opportunity to learn a life skill through sewing. This helps lift their families out of poverty and gives them hope for the future. This project is open to Christians and Hindus alike as the hand of hope is extended to these ladies.
Since the first sewing school was initiated in 2012, the sewing project has been successful in seeing 100 ladies learn this skill. They are now self-sufficient and supporting other ladies to learn. Their quality of life has improved as they are now able purchase food and send their children to school. Vision for Asia is now embarking on a fourth sewing project this time in a village in a slum area of Kolkata. It sees the same environmental and economic hardships of its three predecessors, with the six ladies who have enrolled having the same goal – to be free from poverty and provide for their families.
Jaba is a mother of one son and one daughter. She lives on a remote island in West Bengal and in 2012 was one of the first ladies to enrol and complete the sewing project. She told us that she now has a hope for her life.
